Lingerie is sometimes considered completely intimidating if not a bit daunting to most. The concept of investing in a ¼ yard of fabric to cover a minimal portion of one’s body may seem pointless. But after viewing The Lake and Stars, a romantic yet thrilling take on women’s intimates, your perspective on such design latitude will change.
The Lake and Stars is a Brooklyn based intimates line designed by both Maayan Zilberman and Nikki Dekker. The two initially set forth on their collaborative endeavor on a whim, but soon their impressions of seduction and sexy via silk and jersey delights became highly coveted. Such sincere admiration brought Sex and The City calling, Vogue knocking at their door and friends of friends of lovers of friends wanting more.
And despite all the fuss, both designers are still normal, beautiful women, nurturing a business with their ageless tastes and design smarts. “Our collection grows organically and the process is thoughtful. We definitely research and to this day always design with our customers in mind. It’s important to keep our designs and fits consistent from season to season…”
Their latest collection does just that and [Fall 2008] derives from ballerina influences, providing intimates options that are intriguing to the eye and lush against bare skin. For Spring 2008/Summer 2009, Maayan and Nikki take whimsical and foxy, mixed with bold stretch silk chiffon colures and hints of metallic lace to give their following ample reasoning for purchasing romper A to chemise B to garter C.
“Every season is my favorite season. We grow in our design aesthetic each collection…for example, our Spring and Summer line of 2009 has a variety of fabric mixtures in playful ways…not to mention our vintage hardware details on each piece.”
“We’ve found that the details in our collection speak most to our clients. It’s basically a reflection of our feminine and free spirited tastes,” says Maayan. Such hardware of The Lake and Stars can be found intellectually placed on their micro mesh body suits and my favorite, the Fiance, which encompasses a Micro mesh bra, garter, and G-string in Berry with metallic Pewter detail. Ladies, does it get any more chic and enthralling than this? And even the care labels of each piece have sly [somewhat hidden] messages waiting for owners to pore over.
