Tools:
1 free chair, found on the sidewalk of Avenue B
1yd. of free scrap fabric, from my ‘scrap fabric’ pile
1 borrowed staple gun w/staples
1 borrowed screw driver
1 borrowed needle nose pliers
1 sewing needle + thread + pencil
As someone who generally has an eye out for exciting finds of furniture that just need a little love and work… I came across a rather simple chair while also in need of a clever gift. It was a gift of thanks to friends who let me crash at their home over the holidays. Therefore something for their home seemed appropriate! The chair had a simple metal frame and thankfully enough padding in tact to be usable, this was a fairly simple and completely FREE DIY project.

Simply:
1) Unscrew the upholstered pieces from the two part metal frame
2) Remove and lay out old ripped pieces of fabric on top of the new scrap fabric to measure and outline general shape
3) Using needle nose pliers, removed all old, rusted staples from two upholstered pieces that was holding
4) Staple new fabric one, carefully to stretch and staple alternating sides so the fabric stretches tight evenly
*Pay attention when removing original fabric to see where neat tucks and folds are needed when putting on new fabric
5) Screw newly upholstered pieces back to metal frame
6) Using a pencil, lightly wrote on ‘Cheers!’ for a guide before the final step
7) Using needle and thread (doubled twice), carefully stitched over pencil marking for a fun and cheeky way of saying ‘Cheers’! to my friends

Happy Hunting!

Thank you Rachel, Julia & Mia for their warm home over the holidays!
WOW. I found this blog on Bing poking around for something completely unrelated- now I’m going to have to go back and go through all the archives
Good bye free time this Sunday!
