Store Profile: Life:Curated

Design is essential here. It’s obvious just by looking at the front window display and, once you’re inside Life:Curated, it’s reinforced that this is not just another clothing store in Williamsburg.

The interior is a work of art. Designed by the girls at Domestic Construction, the ceiling is a mesmerizing set of varied ropes set into parallel tracks beckoning you further in a loop around the store. From the layout to the laid back staff, there’s something comforting about this place. Whether it’s a fun, silky top, a set of they-will-be-mine shoes, a distinguished chair right out of an old Polaroid photo or maybe the most interesting desk lamp you’ve ever seen, the items at Life:Curated will grab hold of you.

The home goods set this place apart — and the realization that its not just a part of the shop’s decor. The chairs, the tables, the prints on the walls, the corkscrew bottle poppers. It’s all for sale. Some personal favorites that can’t go unmentioned: the selection of Edison light bulbs, a gorgeous collection of embellished pillows made by Suki Cheema and the conversation-inspiring Elizabeth Knight jewelry collection by Elizabeth Thompson, who uses molds of tiny animal bones to cast her pieces out of silver in outstanding detail.

For men, Life:Curated carries lines such as Buckler, Creep, Wood Wood and Vanguard. A jacket and shoe combo will make you feel like Steve McQueen. A pair of shoes from the Osborn line feels crafted by your own personal cobbler.

For the ladies, they have a large selection of work from international and local designers: ace & jig, Lifetime Collective and Mara Hoffman. The prices range from ‘a steal’ to ‘go ahead and treat yourself.’

Located at 186 Grand Street, it’s just short walk from Bedford Avenue. Life:Curated is the only place outside of Manhattan to get these brands, so save your Metrocard swipe for that trip to the museum you keep promising yourself you’re going to take.
