Who: Suzanne Rae, Fashion Designer
Where: Bushwick, Brooklyn
What: 1-Bedroom Loft
WC: How long have you lived in the space?
SR: 5.5 years
WC: What did it look like when you originally moved in?
SR: The space is basically a white box. For the first year there was very little furniture and no work area. It was just a very clean empty loft, and it seemed so large to me at the time. Then I started my line, and slowly it began to fill up and seemingly shrink in size.
WC: So you did all this work yourself?
SR: Well, over the years with the help of friends and family, furniture came in, art came in, quirky gifts were given, my childhood toys were unloaded, temporary walls were built, and most recently a large bookshelf was built-in. As my line has grown, my place has morphed and it continues to do so.
WC: Do you have any future plans you are working on for the interior?
SR: I know that the designated work space will eventually need to be larger, but I can’t imagine that yet. I think that perhaps the next growth will be outgrowth. Haha, I feel it’s overgrown as it is.
