New Shop In Town

SEW Moni is a family owned sewing and crafts company originally based out of Corpus Christi, Texas. It all began with tote bags and aprons designed by the Mother-Daughter duo, Criselda and Moni Briones. Shifting gears to Brooklyn, Moni brought the dream of SEW Moni to New York. Through her experience from the houses of fashion and photography studios, she took on the entrepreneurial spirit of New York City and began developing the company. Since then, SEW Moni has grown to encompass not only sewn goods but fabric, sewing and craft supplies, sewing education courses, original sewing patterns, vintage items, and more.

Today, 330 South 3rd Street will be their second store opening. The first is located in Ridgewood, Queens off the Dekalb Ave stop on the L train. They teach smaller classes there and sell sewing notions and fabric, as well as jewelry from their sister company Greene & Sunset. This second studio space, unlike their first retail location, will be geared towards sewing classes, local craft meet-ups and co-hosting weekend pop-up shops with local designers and craftsmen. They believe beginning sewing, fashion and clothing classes will be a nice complement to the D-I-Y community in Williamsburg.

Another feature at the new space is “Craft Sundays.” Students and locals can come to use the sewing machines for FREE to complete class and/or personal projects with guidance from someone at the shop. They want to foster the art of sewing in the community and provide people with access to the tools to do so.
