New Bohemians

It’s time for another crop of Brooklyn’s finest. These Brooklynites represent a broad artistic spectrum, from comedy to glassblowing, yet share one thing in common: A relentless desire to create. It is in this spirit that Working Class presents the New Bohemians.

What neighborhood do you live in? I produce theater in Greenpoint, therefore I live in Greenpoint.

Where are you originally from? Driftwood, Texas.  I grew up on 30 acres of land just south of Austin.

What brought you to New York? A rental car and a road trip. Honestly, I don’t think I planned it well at all. I ended up in a funky apartment in Queens living with a 50-year-old Bulgarian man named Lubo. But, I came here to do theater and that is what I do.

Favorite things to do in New York? Wander the streets, alone or otherwise, connecting the dots of this city. I like reading O. Henry stories and then finding the exact street corner or diner or building he wrote about.

Best New York moment: Opening night of my theater company’s first production. We call ourselves ‘The Pedestrians.’ We put on a weekend of Tennessee Williams’ short plays on an outdoor stage in Greenpoint. It was a beautiful night of nerves and live music, friends, love. It was so great to look out at the audience, sitting in this magical garden on pallet benches and Mexican blankets, clutching mason jars of whiskey and know they were happy. I was literally shaking with joy.

Anything exciting you’re working on now? I am acting in the world premiere of Nigel O’Hearn’s newest play, The Attic Space. It’s an observation of what people do near the end of their lives. I play the Witness.
