The Embodiment Project

Photography by Molly Landreth

Embodiment is a collection of short films and photographs that explore the varied experiences of queer lives and relationships across the United States.

Filmmaker Amelia Tovey and photographer Molly Landreth set out to capture the essence of queer America. In their new multimedia project Embodiment, they are looking to show the many faces and personalities that make up the LGBTQ community, from Los Angeles to small town Missouri.

“We really hope that this project will resonate with people of all genders and identities, and that it will become a means of opening up dialog in and out of the queer community about what it means to be queer, female, male, American, religious, etc. says Molly,” Amelia said. “It’s also important to us that young people identify with these images; we find our biggest fans are queer youth living in undeserved communities where access to a diverse range of images and experience is limited.”

In 2011, Embodiment will be launched as a gallery installation and a multimedia website with new short films and over sixty photographic portraits released weekly. Amelia and Molly feel its important these films are free and available for you – no matter where you are in the world.

Embodiment: A Portrait of Queer Life in America, is the first ever comprehensive web based documentary and archive to explore the LGBTQ community in America as a whole. This project explores the lives of individuals from urban and rural areas, and engages with the connecting themes of love, religion, race, class, family, geography and gender identity. They create photographic and video portraits of each person they encounter and offer individuals a chance to speak for themselves. This project has the potential to ignite real social and individual change on a global level.

All projects to this magnitude need all the help they can get financially, if you are down for the cause and able to help Molly and Amelia out click here and scroll down to the Embodiment logo to donate.
