Who: Jared Geller, Producer at hitRECord
Where: Williamsburg, Brooklyn
What: 1 Bedroom Railroad Apartment
WC: How long have you lived in the space?
JG: Pretty sure it’s been ten years.
WC: What did it look like when you originally moved in?
JG: The floors had seen better days so I white-washed them. Also, I painted the walls grey. Other than that, the physical space is pretty much the same.
WC: Where do you spend most of your time at home?
JG: Most of the time I’m sitting on the couch in the main living space. Being on the second floor facing south brings in really great light. I can sit in one place looking at books and daydreaming into space for hours.
WC: It seems like everything in your apartment has a story. What one thing means the most to you?
JG: Yeah, I’m a bit of a pack-rat. And, I tend to over sentimentalize all the objects in my apartment. However, the one thing that probably means the most to me is my piano. It was given to me by my friends and family for my thirtieth birthday. I studied as a kid and they wanted me to start playing again. Knowing that I’m fairly particular about just-about everything, my friend Sean even took me to the music store and let me choose. It’s a black Yamaha upright — retrofitted with some sort of thing that allows me to play with headphones. I’m pretty sure I can’t think of a more beautiful physical representation of my friends and family than the piano they gave me.
WC: Do you have any future plans you are working on for the interior?
JG: Right now I’m splitting my time between Williamsburg and Los Angeles, with the majority of this year in the west. Unfortunately, all my attention right now is being given to my place in LA. But, Brooklyn is definitely where I call home.
