Who: Kim Mesches, Fashion Designer and Creative Director of KM Collective
Where: Williamsburg, Brooklyn
What: 1-Bedroom Townhouse with workspace
WC: How long have you lived in the space?
KM: I’ve been here for about six months.
WC: What did it look like when you originally moved in?
KM: The place was pretty much furnished, blank walls, some artwork. The mood board wall was blank and the studio area was empty.
WC: Where do you spend most of your time at home?
KM: If I’m not answering emails, I am in the studio space working on new projects.
WC: Since you design from home, do you find it hard to stop working when you see unfinished projects lying around?
KM: Yes! Working and living in the same place, it’s hard to get away. Sometimes I will start a project and leave it and move on, but it’s good that I can come back to it. It also lets me take breaks and make my own schedule, which is great.
WC: How long have you been designing?
KM: My whole life, but I started actually doing it as a career when I was nineteen. I worked for a brand in the city, then started my own line two years later.
WC: Do you see yourself working out of your house in the future, or would you like to get a separate workspace?
KM: Well, I would love to work out of the same space forever, but I think it’s nice to have a separate workspace free of distractions, so I would love to get a place to work out of at some point.
